Unheard Music‘s latest release, ‘Your Retreat’, lands on digital platforms today, marking the label’s second offering and a strong move into raw electronic experimentation. pizzaaftersex, who co-founded the imprint last year with Far&High and Mona Chrome, takes the lead as label head, drawing from his background in sound design and cinematic scores. He has credits on major gaming soundtracks. He teams up with Italian producer Malandra Jr., whose background combines classical piano and clarinet training at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala academy with early tech work on Atari systems and Cubase. The collaboration builds on Malandra Jr.‘s established career. He has released tracks like ‘Conquest’ on Cocoon Recordings, followed by work on Dfloor, Stil Vor Talent, and R&S, and has played sets at Tomorrowland and Berlin’s Watergate, where his mixes move between shadowy depths and brighter edges.
The original track pulses with a steady house groove, its melodies rising just enough to sweep dancers into motion, whether packed into intimate clubs or lost in vast festival crowds. Musumeci reimagines the track with his signature Italo indie dance flair, weaving in synth-laden hooks and a playful nod to vintage Italian disco, all retooled for today’s dancefloors with bright leads and a driving four-on-the-floor rhythm. On the flip side, Kirik cranks up the intensity, delivering a club-focused remix packed with punchy basslines and raw, kinetic percussion, making the release a versatile weapon for DJs across the house spectrum, from underground haunts to indie-tinged sets.
pizzaaftersex shared: “For me, this is a very special piece of work. The release turned out to be dual – there is an incredibly strong mood that Malandra brought into the track, there are amazing remixes by Musumeci & Kirik, and there is also my original vision of the track, which dissolved within the interpretations of other artists. It is an incredible experience to live through this process, to accept it, and to fall in love with what it became. This is an extremely positive experience, and I hope everyone will be able to feel all the shades of our new release on Unheard Music.”
Malandra Jr. had this to say: “This project was born between Italy and Dubai. It comes from deep mutual respect and from a fresh, sparkling melody that immediately pushed me to create something that could make it even lighter and more enjoyable to listen to. At first, I thought of something indie but then house music showed up. I hear summer in it, good vibes. A driving loop that releases into drops full of groove. Don’t look for overthinking here, this is about holding a glass in your hand and enjoying life.” Beyond the music, Unheard Music eyes more with planned events, podcasts, video mixes, and unique off-site gatherings, all tying back to connecting through sound over algorithms.
