Scottish producer and DJ sim0ne has released ‘lights down’. Following up on last year’s ‘always believed’ and ‘freaky’, it provides the newest insight into her debut EP. Those earlier tracks pulled from ’90s UK rave traditions and fast became staples during her sets. sim0ne stands out with her hybrid take on hard house, happy hardcore, techno and trance. The approach has secured her a Rinse FM residency along with a BBC Radio 6 Music guest mix, plus appearances at Fabric, Glastonbury, ADE, Reading & Leeds and additional major events.
‘lights down’ locks into the intense rush of a dancefloor hitting maximum energy. sim0ne takes broken beat drums, glacial synth work and treated vocals, expertly breaking them apart before fusing the pieces again. The structure moves from an initial glitched-out hyper-pop section into a driving peak-time four-to-the-floor track. It feels even more instinctual and inventive than her previous material, zeroing in on that unfiltered euphoria.
A fan-focused visual accompanies the single, developed by sim0ne alongside her team at mink. It features five actual fans encountering the track on a club’s high-end sound system for the very first time. Produced through a partnership with Apple and recorded entirely using the iPhone 17 Pro, nine devices arranged in a circle captured every reaction in full 360 degrees. Releases like this one show sim0ne advancing her electronic sound while strengthening her connection with listeners in both recorded and live dance music contexts.
