Austrian producer Tobias Bergson unveiled his Promise EP this past weekend on PLAYY. Records, adding another gem to a catalogue that has already amassed over 180 million streams and earned nods from Don Diablo, Lost Frequencies and Steve Aoki. His earlier releases found homes on Armada and Universal Music Austria, while his electrifying live sets have ignited Austria’s Spring Festival and secured him coveted spots on Spotify’s editorial playlists. Bergson’s sound has turned heads at DJ Mag, 1001 Tracklists, Mixmag Germany, Mixmag Netherlands, YourEDM, Magnetic Magazine, House Music With Love and Electronic Groove, and has reverberated across the airwaves on CBC Music’s Afterdark, KCRW’s Metropolis and RTÉ 2FM. Beginning his creative journey at 17 with nothing but software as his instrument, Bergson crafts tracks that throb with emotion and melancholy, blending dancefloor energy with introspective depth. His melodies, intricate and shimmering with a spectral touch, possess a magnetic pull, drawing inspiration from Deadmau5, Ben Böhmer, Rampa and Chris Malinchak. Each production glides effortlessly between deep house, techno, progressive, lounge and house, refusing to be boxed into a single genre.
The title track ‘Promise’ opens with a haunting, reflective motif, carried by a rolling synth pulse and a vocal haze that hovers just out of reach. This introduction blossoms into an Afro-House rhythm as layers of synthesis swell and propel the track forward. Every detail aids in crafting a sonic atmosphere sure to mesmerize fans of Keinemusik, YOTTO, and Disclosure. Throughout the EP, deep basslines anchor the melodic core, ensuring each track resonates powerfully in a live setting.
Tobias Bergson shared: “The EP came together over the course of last year and into this year. I’d been experimenting with melodic techno since last year, exploring how I could bring that sound into my own style, and that experimentation naturally evolved into the EP. I also wanted to create something that would translate well into my live sets, at least in parts. That’s why there are a few bass-heavy tracks alongside the more melodic moments. I wanted to keep that energy and weight while still maintaining a strong melodic element throughout the EP.”
