French production duo 2smile returns with a remix collection of their track ‘Tribute To Frikkyo’, originally dedicated to the late DJ Da Frikkyo, a prominent figure in the Italian hard techno scene. Presented under their Ondawey Music label, this release features two new remixes: one by Alex Fixman and an Afro Rework by 2smile themselves. 2smile’s music spans Melodic Techno, Tech House, and Afro House across a catalog boasting over 100 unreleased tracks, showcasing their skill in blending genres and drawing from diverse musical influences.
The original track received acclaim from industry icons such as Laurent Garnier, Terry Francis, and Paco Osuna. Born from a deeply spiritual creative process following Frikkyo’s passing, the composition blends dynamic guitars, deep basslines, and sampled vocals from Fela Kuti to create a heartfelt tribute to their departed friend.
Alex Fixman’s remix maintains the original’s hypnotic essence while exploring deeper Techno territory with breakbeat elements, offering global appeal through its powerful bass and commanding kick drum. Meanwhile, 2smile’s remix features strong drum patterns and evolving experimental guitar riffs, presenting a more direct approach than the original and inviting listeners to delve deeper into its compelling groove.
