Q&A with fiery afro house music duo Mozaik (FR)

Inspired by afro house sounds that mashup with micro techno, French duo Mozaik (FR)  blur the lines between the two genres. Their latest offerings include an official remix of South African music producer Siphe Tebeka’s original song ‘Ndeyekeni’, released via South African record label KUNYE earlier last month. This remix takes the mellow & deep atmospheres of the original and adds fiery beats to it.

We chatted with the duo and brothers Mozaik (FR) recently.

For anyone that hasn’t heard it yet, how would you describe your sound?

Our universe is very melodic with lots of emotion. We love to mix techno sounds with an afro and ethnic vibe. We always tried to tell a story through our tracks.

At what point in your life did you have that moment where you said to yourself “This is it. This is the type of music I want to create?”

First, we are French and we were directly affected by the French touch with artists like Daft Punk, Laurent Garnier, Air and many more… So concerning our influences we already were into the strong melodic vibes. Then, our travels and the discovery of different cultures inspired us in a different way, more organic!  So it seemed obvious to mix electronic and organic sounds.

What piece of gear could you never live without?

Right now we love the Korg Minilogue!

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?

Both! For Alex studio work and music creation, for Matt performing and interacting with a live audience.

What’s the weirdest or most amazing reaction you’ve had to your music?

To see people reacting positively to our unreleased track. It seems very simple but when you  spend a lot of time producing a track and you see that it works…it’s just the best gift ever !

Favourite BPM?

120

All-time favourite album?

Daft Punk Homework (or Discovery).

What have you got in the pipeline for the near future?

One EP on Edu Imbernon’s imprint EKLEKTISH and another EP on KINESEN, the label of our dear friend Parsifal! We also have a special edit for a famous British artist of the 80’s… I can’t wait to release all this stuff! 🙂
